Augusto Mathias has held a range of positions with the municipal government:
Healthy City Planner ,Community Health Officer with the Drug Abuse Prevention Program, Multicultural Health Consultant, and Multicultural Health Coordinator with the Multicultural Health Program, and Race Relations Coordinator.
Augusto facilitated and co-ordinated implementation of multidisciplinary and multisectoral partnerships to develop integrated, practical and cost effective solutions to identified urban challenges. Presently in his consultation role, Augusto facilitates community organisational capacity building, by assisting in the development of mandates strategic plans, evaluation, communication and advocacy strategies.
Augusto has served on national advisory committees in Canada and with the Provincial Public Health Association. He has also served on the boards of several Toronto community groups and organizations addressing issues of multiculturalism, environment, racism, equity and access, AIDS, drugs, sexuality, youth, persons with disabilities, and seniors.
In his capacity as the senior consultant in the Toronto International Consultants, Augusto has also participated in Technologic exchanges with other countries, such as, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Cuba, Denmark, El Salvador, England, Finland, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Sweden, Taiwan, Tanzania and United States. Presently Augusto serves as interntional advisor with the National Confederation of Municipalities, Network of Potentially Healthy Municipalities, CEMASI – Environment Monitoring Centre of Itapeti Mountain Range in Brazil and member of WindShare an innovative, wind power co-operative in Canada.
He also provides lectures internationally within academic institutions and governments, and consultation to community organizations and coalitions on developing a mandate, strategic planning, program planning, evaluation, communication strategies, trouble-shooting, and advocacy strategies.
Augusto´s greatest strengths lie in his abilities to liase with communities, to support the creation of partnerships to identify and address urban challenges, and to support community involvement and increased grass-roots participation in decision-making process.
