Nicholas Cucinelli

Nick Cucinelli is a Mentor-in-Residence at the U-M Michigan Venture Center (http://www.techtransfer.umich.edu/resources/venturecenter/index.php) where he works on the development and commercialization of U-M technologies in the broadly-defined “cleantech” sector, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable mobility. In this role he provides assistance in technology disclosure assessments, business formation, and mentoring staff, inventors, and entrepreneurs. Nick is also presently Business Development Officer for Diverse Energy Ltd. (http://www.diverse-energy.com), an early-stage fuel cell company working to replace diesel generators in off-grid cellular telecommunication base stations in developing countries. He is also an outside Director and founding member of thin-film solar startup Solargystics, Ltd. Prior to joining Diverse Energy, Nick was President & CEO of a publicly-traded alternative and renewable energy technology incubator and served in various capacities with Energy Conversion Devices, United Solar Ovonic, BP plc, Ford Motor Company, the Carbon Disclosure Project, and four startup companies. He also served sixteen years with the U.S. Coast Guard, where he focused on environmental protection and emergency response and earned the designation of “Coast Guard Hero” in 2000. Nick holds a 200-ton USCG Captain’s license, a BS (with High Honors) in Marine Science from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and a joint MBA/MS from the University of Michigan, where he helped organize the first SMART conference in 2003.
