Mr. Baker received BS and MSc degrees in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1969. He joined Ford Motor Company Research Staff, where he participated in engine studies of the sources of emissions and tradeoffs with efficiency. These studies led to development of engine mapping test procedures and data analysis tools. He held a number of positions within Ford Powertrain Research involving combustion system design and development, including new engine concepts, alternative fuel utilization, and engine lubrication and friction. Leadership positions included Manager of the Fuels and Lubricants Department, Manager of the Advanced Powertrain Technology and Materials Department, Senior Technical Leader of Advanced Diesel Systems, and Ford team leader to determine long term pathways to achieve sustainable greenhouse gases and to define powertrain and fuel opportunities.
He retired from Ford Motor Company in 2007, and is currently consulting in the areas of powertrain systems and sustainable scenarios for personal and commercial road transportation.
