Eric Britton
Born in Mississippi, educated in New England and Europe, Eric studied science and economics at Amherst and Columbia College, and later the PhD program of the Graduate Faculty of Economics at Columbia University (PhD Cand.), with work on a dissertation on technology, development and job creation as Fulbright Fellow in Italy. In 1967 co-founded EcoPlan International, a consultancy/network providing an independent international forum of strategic observation, reflection and decision counsel to government, industry and the volunteer sector on issues involving the management of technological change as it affects people in their daily lives. Has served as a high level advisor to the OECD, the European Commission, the United Nations, and a long list of national and regional government agencies. Founded The Commons in 1974, the New Mobility Agenda in 1988. In 2000 he and Enrique Peñalosa, then mayor of Bogotá Colombia, were co-awarded the Stockholm Environment Challenge Prize for 'outstanding socio-technical innovation'. In June 2002 was awarded the World Technology Environment Prize for outstanding achievement.
